What are Solar PV Panels and How Do they Work?

With our introduction of the Logic Solar PV training course we thought we would give some information about what Solar PV is and how it can be used:

Solar PV panels use the sun’s light energy to generate renewable electricity for homes. This renewable electricity can then either be used in the home to reduce energy bills or can be fed back into the National Grid to generate another source of income for the household, which is known as the feed in Tariff or FiT.

The size of a system is typically recorded in kilowatt-peak units (kWp). An average domestic solar PV system is usually around 2.2kWp. Solar Panels generally perform best on south facing roofs to maximise the potential energy created from the Sun.

Solar PV panels use light energy from the sun to generate a Direct Current (DC) of electricity. This is then turned into a useable Alternating Current (AC) by an inverter. As solar panels use light energy and not heat energy, they are effective throughout the year. Solar panels can still generate renewable electricity in overcast weather.

The Logic Solar PV Training Course we offer is ideal for electricians who, although will not be fitting solar panels, will need the knowledge required to connect the system up to the system.

If you are a practicing electrician and would like to take advantage of the current boom in Solar PV call us today FREE on 0800 331 7500 to find out more.

Up to 31st December 2020 Regulated qualifications and UKAS Accredited certificates of competence issued in the UK were widely recognised by other EU member states. However since the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, individual member states that previously recognised a UK qualification may now no longer do so. Learners undertaking qualifications on the basis that it is recognised by an EU member state should in the first instance make enquiries with the relevant bodies in that Country to confirm its recognition status.
