Gas Training To Launch Business Idea

Michael is 40 years old and has worked for many years as a letting agent. Michael says, ”As a letting agent I have regularly subcontracted thousands of pounds worth of business to gas safe registered engineers and other trades over the years. It has been costly as well time-consuming. Legislation that surrounds rental properties means than regular gas safety checks and servicing are a must do for every landlord. I was looking at this and thought, I can do that and maybe earn some money for myself and launch my own business offering gas services to landlords and other letting agents. So I made inquiries and found out how I can become gas safe registered. I’ve enrolled in a flexible plumbing and gas training course where I will do my training in 2-weekly blocks. I have found the training and the facilities to be really good. I like the fact that I am guaranteed a mentor to help build my on-site portfolio.”

Michael is from Tipton in the West Midlands. He has joined on a Gas Foundation course for beginners. Due to business commitments, he is completing his training on a flexible basis and attend in 2-weekly blocks. During his initial training period, Michael is spending time perfecting his copper pipework skills and central heating installation and design. This period will be followed by gas foundation training, where trainees will be taught in small groups. This training consists of gas theory, legislation and practical work. Upon completion of first two stages of training, all trainees will continue their development by gaining on-site experience with a registered gas engineer. During this period trainees must build an on-site portfolio of evidence for presentation to the gas training manager. If the gas training manager believes that the portfolio is acceptable the trainee will be asked to return to the training centre to undergo assessment for ACS Gas qualifications. If the trainee successfully passes his or her ACS Gas Assessment they are then able to apply to Gas Safe Register for membership.

Up to 31st December 2020 Regulated qualifications and UKAS Accredited certificates of competence issued in the UK were widely recognised by other EU member states. However since the UK’s withdrawal from the EU, individual member states that previously recognised a UK qualification may now no longer do so. Learners undertaking qualifications on the basis that it is recognised by an EU member state should in the first instance make enquiries with the relevant bodies in that Country to confirm its recognition status.
