Since it’s Gas Safety week, we thought we’d clear up some misconceptions about gas courses and becoming a Gas Safe engineer.
To undertake plumbing and heating jobs where you’re dealing with gas you have to be on the Gas Safe Register. Beware of any bogus training centres out there who are happy to take your money in return for inadequate training that do not qualify you for Gas Safe registration.
How do you become Gas Safe?
Our three step Gas Training Programme is designed to allow you to follow all the pre-requisites to becoming a fully competent and gas safe registered heating engineer.
Here’s what you’ll do on the gas course in three easy steps.
1. In the first part of the course, you’ll get a comprehensive knowledge of gas work. You’ll learn about gas regulations and receive practical training. This takes 20 – 25 days
2. We’ll pair you up with a registered Gas Safe engineer and you’ll get real on the job experience. The jobs that you complete will go into your portfolio which is necessary in order to do the ACS.
3. You’ll come back to Options Skills and take the ACS exams. The exams consist of verbal, written and practical tests. When you pass, you’ll be able to apply to Gas Safe to register as a Gas Safe engineer
Why do you need to become Gas Safe to work as a gas engineer?
Simply put, if you want to work as a gas engineer, you need to be on the Gas Safe Register and have taken an approved certification scheme by an awarding body.
If you’re carrying out gas work without being on the Gas Safe Register, you are breaking the law. Gas is a dangerous substance; not only will you be held legally liable but you will be putting people’s lives at risk.
