From Scaffolder To Sparky | Electrical Trainee

Electrical trainee working on a consumer unit

Electrical trainee, Haider, made the jump from scaffolder to sparky with the help of Options Skills.

Previously working as a scaffolder, Haider wanted to expand his skillset, providing him with more employment opportunities and earning potential.

First enquiring in February 2020, he wasn’t set on one particular trade and wanted to explore his options.

At Options Skills, we often receive phone calls from people wanting to learn a trade but unsure which one is right for them. Our course advisors are always happy to discuss the different options available and advise on which trade they believe a person is best suited.

We also regularly have tradespeople looking to learn a new trade. The reasons for which can vary. From wanting to do more work for themselves rather than hiring someone else to simply wanting a new challenge.

Our course advisors discussed each of our courses in detail with Haider to ensure he was well-equipped to make his decision.

This led Haider to put down a deposit to secure a spot on our NVQ Level 3 Electrical Training Course in Manchester.

Electrical Training With Options Skills

Haider began training with us at the end of July 2020. Completing the first three weeks of the NVQ Level 3 electrical course, he undertook training in our classrooms and workshops.

Our courses combine theory and practical training to ensure students get a well-rounded experience. Both aspects are training are essential in students gaining an understanding of the electrical trade.

Joining us again in October, Haider completed the final weeks of his training. By the end of stage one, trainees have earned their DEI, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and an ECS Trainee Card.

With the trainee card, trainees can go out to find paid employment on-site. And we help them do so.

To begin with, we invite students to our employability workshop. The workshop provides them with the skills and tools to create CVs, explore the job market effectively, and offer interview tips and techniques.

Launched in Summer 2020, we also boast a career development team. The team specialise in finding employment and placement opportunities for our students in local businesses suited to them.

Haider completed training and worked with our career development team to find employment. A few months later, we found him a job with Plan B Electrical

What’s next?
