Innovation Electrical & Data Ltd Hire Options Skills Electrical Trainee

Electrical trainee Isaac wanted a complete career change, so he became an electrical trainee with Options Skills.

Previously working as a pharmacy assistant, Isaac had become bored in his role and wanted a complete career change. He was looking for a career he could do self-employed, which offered diverse projects.

First speaking with us at the beginning of 2020, Isaac was immediately interested in the electrical industry.

The industry is booming. With the growing population and housing market and many switching to electrical power as a more eco-friendly option, now is a better time than ever to enter the trade.

Having received our information pack after the initial call, Isaac took time to comb through it, ensuring he was fully informed and ready to get training. Just a few weeks later, he’s secured his place.

Initially, Isaac booked his place on Birmingham’s NVQ Level 3 Electrical Training Course starting on March 30th. Sadly, due to the national COVID lockdown, we had to close our centres and rearrange training.

Options Skills worked throughout the lockdown to contact students and find a new start date to suit them.

Electrical Training With Options Skills

With his new start date in August, Isaac joined us in the Birmingham training centre to begin his course.

Throughout the initial stage of training, Isaac completed both theoretical and practical training, providing him with a solid foundation of understanding and skills.

By the end of stage one, he’d gained his DEI, 18th Edition Wiring Regulations and his ECS Trainee Card.

With the trainee card, students can work as paid trainees, and during this time, they’ll build their portfolios.

To assist students in finding employment, we invite them to our employability workshop. They’ll learn CV writing skills during the workshop, explore the job market, and practice interview techniques. In addition, the workshop sets them up with a good experience level for their job search.

But we don’t stop there. We boast a career development team dedicated to finding our students placements.

Our team were able to find Isaac a role with Innovation Electrical & Data Ltd. Having finished his course on Friday, he began work the following Monday.

That was in October, and Isaac is still working with Innovation today, completing a wide range of domestic and commercial electrical work.

What Did Issac Think?

“I had a great 8 weeks training with Options Skills.

All the instructors explained everything well and always took the time to give you any extra help and answer questions you might have.

Through Options Skills, I have managed to change my career path and walk straight into a job.

Thanks to Steve, John, Tom and Mark my instructors and thanks to Keiron for sorting the course out for me during the Covid-19 difficulties.

I would also like to thank Emily who managed to land me the perfect job for setting me up in my new career as an electrician”.

What’s next?

Isaac will continue to work on-site and build his portfolio. In addition, an NVQ assessor will visit him on-site to ensure he’s progressing and on the right track.

At the end of stage two of training, he’ll earn his NVQ Level 3. With this, he can complete his AM2 assessment and apply for his ECS Gold Card.

Along with the Gold Card, electricians earn installation electrician status – allowing them to complete low voltage electrical and electronic equipment work unsupervised.
