Free Renewables Training With Options Skills

Existing plumbers and gas and heating engineers can now claim free renewables training through Options Skills.

In 2019, the UK Government committed to the Net-Zero target proposed by the Climate Change Committee. The target is to reduce emissions by 100% from 1990 levels by 2050. The UK requires significant updates to make this a reality – including infrastructure changes. Though it may sound ambitious, changes have already begun.

Over the last few years, rumours circulated that the government was to ban gas boilers in homes by 2025. The reality of this is gas boilers will only be banned in new build homes from this date – for now.

The government does, however, plan to ban new gas boiler sales from 2035. In addition, a new report suggests this date be brought forward to 2033. And while the transition will cost homeowners anywhere between £4000 and £6000, the government is urged to move forward with the plans to help reduce the UK’s environmental impact.

So what does this mean for plumbers and gas and heating engineers?

Over the last few years, a growing number of tradespeople have been delving into the world of renewable energy. Upskilling from plumbing and gas heating into a broader range of heating options helps to future-proof their careers.

While gas boilers will still be around for the foreseeable future, there’s no doubt we’ll see more homes kitted out with heat pumps. And as the demand for this increases, plumbers and engineers need to be suitably qualified to deliver the installation, maintenance and servicing of greener heating systems.
