HEATING DESIGN MODULE

As part of our ACS Gas & Renewables Training Course, students will undertake training to complete our Heating Design Module.

We feel that this training is essential to help students gain a working knowledge of biler operation, system controls and fault finding/diagnosis. Knowing the differences between systems, their benefits and pitfalls will help engineers correctly specify and fit the most energy efficient solutions for customers. This also covers the installation of smart controls and "boiler plus" energy efficiency regulations.

Students will cover Heating and Hot Water Design, Unvented Hot Water Systems, and Heat Efficiency during these two weeks.

Subject to assessment, students will achieve these essential qualifications that will further assist & benefit them in their career as gas and heating engineers.

In addition, many prominent contractors, insurers, housing associations and water authorities seek the qualifications listed on this page as evidence of knowledge, competence and compliance.

Candidates will be assessed for suitability before course attendance or have complete our Initial MLP 7-week programme.

Central Heating Design (HSD1)

Heating and Hot Water design including knowledge and understanding of “S” & “Y” plan systems, hot water storage, comfort conditions and basic heating and hot water principles, basic system types, heat-loss calculations, system design, system specification and selection including emitters, pipework, boilers and pump sizing, sizing and selection of hot water systems.

Hot Water Storage Systems (HWSS)

Unvented hot water Systems (G3). Water Regulations and the need for compliance. Regulations, standards and guidelines. Theory of understanding of expansion of hot water (HW). Principles of HW storage. Design considerations. Components and function. Safety controls, discharge and integration. Installation of HW systems. Maintenance and servicing of HW systems including Unvented HWS & Health and safety considerations.

Water Regulations (WRAS)

Training is delivered in centre and assessed through a multiple-choice paper. WRAS certification is essential for plumbers and engineers looking to join their local water authorities Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme, a plumbing competent person schemes (CPS) or Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS) registration bodies.

Heat & Energy Efficiency (EEDHS)

Accredited by LCL, the Heat Efficiency certification is aimed at heating engineers and installers working in domestic properties and is also a pre-requisite to other renewables qualifications. This qualification will allow students to understand and be competent when carrying out the design of heating systems in accordance with Part L of the Building Regulations.
