This specialised training programme, provided free of charge to eligible participants, is designed to empower engineers with expertise in air-source heat pumps and ground source heat pumps.

LCL Assessed Course

LCL is a recognised Awarding Organisation, accredited by the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS). City and Guilds vs LCL

Qualification(s)

Package One - Water Regulations + Air-Source Heat Pump Installation (WRAS + IMASHPS).
Package Two - Ground-Source Heat Pump Installation + Low Temperature System Design (IMHPS21 + LTHWS).

Entry Requirements

WRAS + IMASHPS Candidates must hold a relevent N/SVQ OR have significant experience. See details.
IMHPS21 + LTHWS Candidates must hold a relevent N/SVQ OR have significant experience AND hold WRAS Water Regulations OR equivalent. See details.

Water Regulations

Certification is required to join a local water authorities’ Water Industry Approved Plumber Scheme.

Upskill and learn how to install and maintain air-source source heat pumps.

3-Days Duration

By completing these certifications, you’ll unlock the door to our second renewables package. This means you’ll be fully equipped to expertly install air-source heat pumps.

To be eligible to undertake training, candidates must be part of one of the following competent person’s schemes:

  • /SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Domestic Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Heating and Ventilating (Industrial and Commercial Installation) or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Oil-Fired Technical Services or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence;
  • Heating installers with experience installing wet central heating systems, evidenced either by Gas Safe (CENWAT), OFTEC (OFT10-105E or OFT15-108W), MCS (Heat Pump or Solar Thermal Hot Water) or HETAS (H004) registration. The experience in these sectors will normally be 3 years, although where the initial assessment confirms the learner has the necessary skills, knowledge and experience, which can be evidenced via RPL assessment, this duration may be reduced.

How Does The £500 Discount Voucher Work?

Suitable candidates are eligible to receive a £500 voucher on selected renewables courses. This is a government-backed initiative to move towards net zero, training existing engineers to install and maintain renewable heating technologies such as heat pumps.

Each candidate is entitled to one training voucher. This means that if candidates want to undertake both renewable energy packages (above), they will need to pay full cost for the second package (Ground-Source Heat Pump Installation and Low Temperature System Design).

Who Is Eligible To Receive The £500 Discount Voucher?

Each candidate is eligible to receive one £500 discount voucher to use on one of our selected packages (above).

Candidates must meet the course requirement(s) listed in each course package (above).

Do I Need Previous Experience?

Previous experience is required to undertake funded renewables training. We required evidence of qualifications (e.g. Gas Safe registration) or proof of experience. 

Prerequisites for acceptance include:

Heating installers with experience installing wet central heating systems, evidenced either by Gas Safe (CENWAT), OFTEC (OFT10-105E or OFT15-108W), MCS (Heat Pump or Solar Thermal Hot Water) or HETAS (H004) registration; or N/SVQ Level 2/3 in Plumbing; Heating & Ventilating; Oil FiredTechnical Services; Gas Installation and Maintenance or equivalent earlier certification that provides evidence of competence. Water Regulations (WRAS) is an additional prerequisite although this can be delivered as part of your training programme.

How Long Is Funded Heat Pump Training?

Air-source heat pump and water regulations training will take place over a one-week duration. 

Where Can I Train?

Funded Heat Pump Training is available at three of the Options Skills training centres. Located in; Birmingham, Manchester, and London.

What Career Options Are Available After Training?

With training complete, you can branch out into the renewable energy side of the gas and heating industry. From Unvented to Heat Pumps, you’ll be able to work as a heating engineer, undertaking a more comprehensive range of projects.
