Q: WHAT CAREER OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE

Heating Engineering With existing plumbing and gas experience and your renewable energy qualifications, you’ll be able to work as a heating engineer, undertaking a more comprehensive range of projects. Specialist With your renewable qualifications, you’ll have the opportunity to explore the different avenues available. For example, some heating engineers specialise in one specific area, such as heat pump installation or low-temperature heating design.

Available as stage four of our domestic gas training or as a standalone course for existing gas engineers, our renewables training will provide you with a range of renewable accreditations.

You’ll be suitably trained, qualified, and prepared as we move towards Net Zero and a greener energy future covering energy efficiency, ground & air source heat pump installation and maintenance and low-temperature hot water systems.

STEP 1 - SELECT YOUR EXPERIENCE LEVEL

Engineers must have experience installing wet central heating systems and hold Level 3 ACS accreditation to be eligible to work on heat pump systems.

Our three step ACS Domestic Gas & Plumbing training course is suitable for any experience level and is an intensive introduction into the industry. Following a Managed Learning Plan you will gain all the knowledge, skills, experience and qualifications to become a domestic gas engineer. You will then have the opportunity for career development by adding Heat Pump Qualifications as appropriate.

The LTHWS design training course enables you to design and specify systems to work at lower heating temperatures, such as those supplied from heat pumps. This is a mandatory qualification for those installers that wish to plan, design and specify heat pump installations. It is not a requirement for those installers that will only only be installing.

Although this course is intense and you will find yourself picking up a lot of information in a short space of time, Options Skills are the best way to get into the trades if you are a fast learner and are willing to work hard. The trainers are excellent (John, Steve, Thomas) and they will help you wherever they can, however be prepared to put in the work yourself in the evenings and weekends to revise and pass exams. Josh and James from the recruitment team were a joy to work with, they work tirelessly to find us all placements to start working in the industry while you complete the portfolio part of the course. I just finished the Electrical 6 week course and the lads found me a job in Birmingham city centre. With a number of exams left to do and portfolio to complete after you finish the 6 weeks in-centre, you can expect the total time to reach being qualified to be around 1-2 years.
